Where are the Yorkshire Dales?

Amazingly, many people still do not know where the Yorkshire Dales are located. Take a look at the first simple map below to locate the main towns and cities around the Yorkshire Dales and there you will find us in the middle of the North of England - with the M6 (Kendal & Lancaster) to the west, the A1 (Darlington, Northallerton & York) to the east, and the M62 (Skipton, Bradford and Leeds) to the south. The main Dales are shown in the second map, though there are over 40 Dales altogether! Here you can see that West Burton and Newbiggin are very central within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Where is The Byre & The Dairy in Bishopdale?

The Byre & The Dairy are both located in the grounds of Eastburn Farmhouse in the next village of Newbiggin. Newbiggin is approximately 1 mile from West Burton and being a hamlet with only one street has a postcode of DL8 3TD.

Directions to all Cottages

When making a reservation, on receipt of the final balance, guests receive the Arrival Pack in the post. Within the Arrival Pack is a sheet of detailed directions to your chosen cottage from all directions. This sheet also includes a map of the village highlighting the location of the cottage. We haven't lost any guests yet!

Transport Options

As West Burton is on the main bus route through Wensleydale, and Newbiggin is approx 800m from the same bus route, you can arrive and get around easily, albeit at a much more leisurely pace! Trains travelling to Northallerton on the main east coast line connect to the bus service which feeds directly into Wensleydale (Leyburn & Hawes). Trains from Leeds travel the scenic route to Garsdale. Buses & taxis are available from there. For rail and bus services into the Yorkshire Dales checkout the Dales Bus service or contact the Yorkshire Dales Tourist Information Centre on 01969-662910.

Being so rural, most of our guests arrive by car to provide the flexibility they are looking for. There are also some super rail/bus/cycle/walk experiences to enjoy once here. Hence, the directions below are from all directions should enable you to arrive safely. We haven’t lost anyone yet! The easiest routes are from junctions on either the A1(M) in the east or M6 from the west. Under normal traffic conditions expect a journey of approx. 30 minutes from the A1 or 60 minutes from the M6.
